We live in what was a four room farmhouse. At some point, somebody enclosed the carport. It must have seemed like a giant addition at the time, but in today's terms, we have a living room the size of a parking space. The original living room became the dining room, and the kitchen, which must have been a tight little eat-in space at one time, is a nice size.
It also means the fireplace is in the dining room.
The fireplace was closed off when we first moved in. It was cracked, had no damper and there were birds living in it. We had it repaired and a damper built, and bought a screen for the chimney. But it was still in the dining room.
So we took the leaves out of the dining table and made it into a small round table. There's only two of us, and with my working until 8pm, we don't eat dinner together much anyway. It gave us room to put 2 comfy chairs in front of the fire.
Blogging by the fire. Not sure how I feel about this, but I am making the most of my snowday by enjoying it.
